After knowing the mod better, it's time to incorporate the mod into the Xash3D engine.

Editing gameinfo.txt

There is a file in the Xash folder called gameinfo.txt which is what the engine reads to register the game as a mod (or a game). Open the gameinfo.txt to see the following:

Now that you've planned your mod from the ground up, it's time to find out what's inside the mod folder. We continue off from Setting up XashXT for modding where you have finished extracting XashXT and transferring the devkit. What constitutes the folder are a lot of files and FOLDERS. It may look intimidating, but this guide will set you up along on the contents on your mod folder.

Step 1 - What is your mod about?

What I learned in observing games nowadays is that most games are just rehashes of other games, some even sticking to the same formula over and over again. This is not an issue though, considering that AAA developers also do such. What's bothering me though is that people are now playing safe when it comes to making creative stuff. Mainly, because they don't want to be branded as a 'clone' or 'ripoff' by critiques and gamers alike.

So far we have done the following:

	* Understood what a mod is and how it impacted the games we play and the developers who make them.
	* Planned out the mod we wanted to make, either single player or multiplayer, serverside or clientside and with or without story
	* Understood what is inside the mod folder and what the specific files are for
	* Added our game to be used by the player by editing gameinfo.txt and doing either shortcuts, batch files or a custom exe.

A mod, according to Wikipedia:

" is the alteration of the program code of a video game in order to make it operate in a manner different from its original version."

It can be anywhere from just new maps, modified weapons and the like, to completely new games that changes the way the game is played. Valve embraced modding ever since they released the Half-Life SDK. This calls for some of the prolific modding communities around. This stemmed careers and games, such as Day of Defeat, Team Fortre…
